The moon carrot, aka Seseli gummiferum, is a species in the carrot family that looks like it came from a different planet. We often refer to Dara and Ammi as 'fancy carrots' but these take it to a whole other level! \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis is a hardy biennial plant, growing a low rosette of chalky blue leaves in the first year followed by an impressive bloom stock the following summer. If left to set seed, the plant will die and self-sow. If you harvest the stem as a cut, or dead-head it before seed has been set, the plant may send up more flowers and is more likely to perennialize. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis species is native to mountainous regions in central Europe and requires well draining soil. Other than well draining, it doesn't seem overly picky. Reportedly hardy to zone 5 and warmer, but we aren't 100% sure on that one. Planted in full sun, the Moon Carrot has the potential to reach 24-36 inches in height and width. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese are for the adventurous growers. From what I can tell, they will make an interesting cut. Spent, dry seed pods can also be used.
