moon-carrot-33
Moon Carrot (32)

This is something I doubt you've even seen before, let alone grown! The moon carrot, aka Seseli gummiferum, is a species in the carrot family that looks like it came from a different planet. We often refer to Dara and Ammi as 'fancy carrots' but these take it to a whole other level!

This is a hardy biennial plant, growing a low rosette of chalky blue leaves in the first year followed by an impressive bloom stock the following summer. If left to set seed, the plant will die and self-sow. If you harvest the stem as a cut, or dead-head it before seed has been set, the plant may send up more flowers and is more likely to perennialize.

This species is native to mountainous regions in central Europe and requires well draining soil. Other than well draining, it doesn't seem overly picky. Reportedly hardy to zone 5 and warmer, but we aren't 100% sure on that one. Planted in full sun, the Moon Carrot has the potential to reach 24-36 inches in height and width.

These are for the adventurous growers. From what I can tell, they will make an interesting cut. Spent, dry seed pods can also be used. Please experiment and get back to us on how you used it!

Please note that perennial orders must be placed separately from other plug orders. The minimum order is two trays, which may be mixed and matched with all other perennials in this collection.
