Farmer's Dozen Collection, week 43
New to plugs? Farming with limited space? Just want to experiment on a smaller scale before investing in full trays of a single variety? Our new Farmer's Dozen plug collections have been created just for you! We have taken some of our top selling items and curated them into 4 different collections of 12 varieties each. Our specially designed trays allow us to ship just 32 plugs of a variety, rather than our previous minimum of 128.
Plant these mixes in the fall, approximately 6 weeks before your first frost for blooms from late winter into the spring and early summer. In warmer regions, most of these varieties will actively grow all winter for extra-early blooms. In colder zones, the plugs will establish for a few weeks before winter and will likely grow minimally over winter, taking the opportunity to grow on sunny, mild days. While you might not see much above ground, their roots are developing below the surface. Fall-planted cool season annuals almost always outperform their spring planted counterparts in both size and productivity. In zones colder than USDA 6, it’s recommended to grow under cover for the best, most reliable results. Some varieties within the mixes are foolproof and can easily withstand bitterly cold winters, while others prefer a little more protection. As with all fall-planting, there is risk involved and winter kill is always a factor to consider.
You will get 12 mini trays, made up of 32 plugs each. Each tray will be labeled with the exact variety. These 12 mini trays (equivalent to 3 full trays) perfectly fill a Gro n Sell shipping box. Each collection is a complete full box for shipping purposes. Easy.

Fall Planted Cottage Garden Mix
For those who prefer brighter colors, the cottage garden mix really delivers. Although the palette is not quite as curated as the Soft Shades Farmer’s Dozen, the colors that come out of this mix will blend well together and allow you to play within a few different palettes. This is a longer blooming mix, starting with pansies and Icelandic poppies in late winter and early spring and finishing with the rudbeckia, delphinium and dianthus in early summer.
