Snapdragon Orleans 3-4
We are happy to offer the Orleans series of Snapdragons from Dutch breeder, Evanthia.
Orleans has a uniform blooming habit on sturdy stems. They are bred for production under hight light and long days, so they are perfect for harvest in the main summer season. They can be grown in the field or tunnel successfully.
(Some colors of the Orleans series (Light Orange 3-4) were previously a part of the Costa Series, but they have been renamed.)

About Tray Sizes
210 and 125 cell trays are full-sized trays, and three of these will fit in a shipping box.
50 cell trays are half-sized trays (unless otherwise noted) and two of these are the equivelent of one full sized tray. Six of these will fit in a shipping box.
18 and 32 cell trays are full sized trays specifically for our vernalized perennials. These have their own set of shipping rules (find details HERE) and cannot be combined with items grown in 210, 125, or 50 cell trays.

Transplant within 2 weeks of arrival, or bump up into a larger cell until you can transplant.

| Temperature Range |
Snapdragons like it cold, especially when young. Short drops to 20F or colder are tolerated well.

| Spacing |
Plant in clusters of 2-3 seedlings, with 6" spacing. Plugs are multi-seeded with this in mind.

Well drained, generally fertile soil.

Facultative long day

| Pinching |
Pinching will produces more, but smaller stems per plant. I prefer to not pinch, resulting in taller stems with larger flowers. Use a wider spacing when pinching.

| When to Plant |
In autumn, plant 3-4 weeks before first frost. In spring plant 3-4 weeks before last frost. These cold hardy plants prefer frosty conditions to hot conditions. Plant at the same time as Stock and Campanula.

Harvest when 1/3 to 1/2 of the buds are open.

Harvest into a holding solution. Snapdragons are moderately sensitive to ethylene.

| Diseases / Insects |
Generally easy growing. Rust is an issue in some environments. Harlequin bugs love snapdragons in summer.

| Bailey's Notes |
When planted in fall or late winter, snapdragons will reach 3-4' easily. Different series bloom at different times and you can extend your harvest window by planting several series at the same time.
