Coming Soon! New for 2026!

Achillea Magical Series (NEW!)

$137.00
Tray Size: 50 (half tray)
Item: MAGICAL® Angeles

The New Achillea Magical series offers an economical way to establish large plantings of perennial Achillea in straight colors! These are grown in smaller plug format rather than our larger perennial size.

You may know the Magical name as a trademark of Kolster Breeding in the Netherlands, one of our primary partners in woody plants for cutting. We currently list their Phlox and we are happy to add these to the lineup. Look out for more next spring! These are produced in conjunction with Danziger to offer a steady supply of desirable varieties.

The Magical series of Achillea is bred to be tall and strong with upright stems and a long vase life. They are highly prodcutive and will not need support netting in most situations. Fall planting will result in harvest in the following summer.

This variety is grown in a 51 cell half tray. Two such trays packed side-by-side are the equivalent of one full sized tray. One full box of plugs from Gro 'n Sell contains 3 full trays, 6 half trays, or any combination thereof. A list of all compatible half trays can be found here.

They are patent protected and propagation is strictly prohibited. Got it? We only get amazing new varieties like these if we play by the rules and give the breeders their share (which they clearly deserve).

Available in fall and spring

As always, order in quantities of 3 full trays per ship date. As these are half trays, you can order half trays of other items (such as Veronica, Hypericum, Gypsophila) and full trays to fill up your box. (for example 2 half trays + 2 full trays = 3 trays)

About Tray Sizes (please read)

210 and 125 cell trays are full-sized trays, and three of these will fit in a shipping box.

50 cell trays are half-sized trays (unless otherwise noted) and two of these are the equivalent of one full sized tray. Six of these will fit in a shipping box. These trays are long and skinny. (Think hotdogs). There are not compatible with 25 cell half trays. Scoop scabiosa, veronica, solidago, gypsophila, hypericum, herbs, some tweedia, and others are grown in the 50 cell tray.

*Chrysanthemums are grown in the same 50 cell half tray as mentioned above, but due to their height, they take up twice as much space. So TWO half trays of mums takes up 2/3 of the box.

25 cell half trays are also half-sized trays, but they are short and square. (Think hamburgers). These are not compatible with 50 cell half trays. Limonium and astrantia are grown in this tray.

Gerberas are also grown in a 25 cell half tray, but are tall that the others, and FOUR of these half trays of gerberas fills a box.

18 and 32 cell trays are full sized trays specifically for our vernalized perennials. These have their own set of shipping rules (find details HERE) and cannot be combined with items grown in 210, 125, or 50 cell trays.

Temperature Range Thrives in a wide range of temperatures; hardy in USDA Zones 3 to 9. Prefers temperatures between 60-75°F during active growth.
Spacing Space plants 12 to 18 inches apart for optimal air circulation and growth.
Soil Preference Prefers well-drained, sandy or loamy soils with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH (6.5–7.5). Tolerates poorer soils and drought once established.
Day Length Daylength neutral. Full sun; at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
Pinching Not necessary, but deadheading spent blooms will encourage reblooming.
When to Plant Plant in early spring after the last frost or in late summer/early fall to establish before winter. Can handle some cooler weather before last frost but protect new plugs from heavy freezes.
Harvesting Harvest stems when 70–80% of the flower heads on the umbel are open. Cut early in the morning when plants are still cool and hydrated.
Post Harvest Care Place stems in cool water immediately. Floral preservatives can extend vase life, though Achillea’s long vase life often doesn’t require it. Good candidate for drying.
Diseases / Insects Generally pest-resistant. May be affected by powdery mildew or rust in humid conditions; ensure proper air circulation to prevent these issues.
Bailey's Notes

We're thrilled to offer vegetatively propagated Yarrow again this year! While seed-grown mixes are wonderful for their variety, these vegetative varieties deliver consistent, vibrant, straight colors - perfect for when you want bold patches of uniform blooms. (Don't worry, we also have a seed-grown mix in the lineup for those who love a little surprise!)

All the varieties in this collection, aside from the whimsical Achillea ptarmica ‘Peter Cottontail’ (which dazzles with its fun, white poofball flowers), are Achillea millefolium types. They achieve at least 18 inches in height and are fully winter hardy across the U.S. Many designers adore ‘Peter Cottontail’ for its unique texture in arrangements, and I suspect you’ll fall in love with it too.

Yarrow’s color can fade or intensify depending on the maturity of the flowers and your local weather conditions, making each bloom a little unique. While photos provide a guideline, expect natural variations that add charm to your garden and arrangements. With varieties like ‘Terracotta’ bringing warm, earthy tones and ‘Summer Pastels’ adding soft, romantic hues, Yarrow offers rustic elegance and incredible versatility. Its long-lasting blooms are a staple in both fresh and dried bouquets, making it a must-have for every gardener and flower farmer.
